Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection per policies and procedures.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory with sample integrity in mind.
• Explains procedures to patients to provide reassurance and reduce anxiety.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace.
• Documents patient and specimen information accurately in the laboratory system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and completes tasks efficiently.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including recollections when needed.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to safety requirements and accreditation standards.
