Job summary

University Cancer & Blood Center is seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our team. The MLT, MT/MLS, reports to the Lab Manager and processes and tests laboratory specimens, reviews and reports lab results, and performs operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation.

It also acts as a resource as needed. Responsibilities include proficiency in testing, independent execution of complex tests, timely performance with proper documentation, and ensuring quality

Qualifications

• Current ASCP certification or equivalent.
• Ability to stand for long periods with excellent attention to detail.
• Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Research and analysis skills.
• Ability to multitask.
• Ability to follow biohazard guidelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to closely read instructions.

Responsibilities

• Process and test all types of laboratory specimens.
• Review and report lab results.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Provide guidance or oversight of unlicensed staff as required.
• Ensure CLIA requirements and specialty guidelines are followed.
• Report quality results with limited errors.

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) reports to the Lab Manager and processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens; reviews and reports lab results; performs operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; acts as resource as needed. Specific responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

• Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing in the department. Preferred Hematology and Chemisty
• Consistently and independently performs the more complex level clinical tests by following department procedures
• Assumes initiative for prompt, accurate performance of test results with appropriate documentation of results.
• Reports quality results with limited errors.
• Proficient in troubleshooting all applicable instruments in the department.
• Provide guidance or oversight of unlicensed staff, as required.
• Must be familiar with CLIA requirements and knowledgeable with the specialty requirements within those organizations.
