General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is seeking an Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital. The ideal candidate will be proficient in diagnosing and managing neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders. Shifts will include a combination of weekend, weekday, and holiday coverage.

The Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist will provide services to patients with communication and swallowing impairments under the supervision of a licensed and certified SLP. Responsibilities include participating in educational activities and special projects, helping achieve service goals, and maintaining the professional image of the service within and outside the hospital.

Primary Duties
  1. Evaluate voice, speech, language, cognitive-communication, pragmatic communication, and swallowing abilities of assigned patients. Conduct bedside dysphagia evaluations and develop rehabilitative procedures to optimize patient outcomes and safety.

  2. Counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses and treatment plans, involving them in the process. Document and bill all clinical activities according to guidelines. Participate in quality improvement and peer review activities.

  3. Maintain an accurate schedule and meet productivity targets. Facilitate communication within the treatment team and keep supervisors informed about patient progress and professional activities.

  4. Identify opportunities for process improvement, participate in team meetings and continuing education, and recommend clinical materials and equipment. Demonstrate professional conduct and ensure compliance with hospital policies. Pursue ongoing professional development.

  5. Provide training and education to multidisciplinary team members. Serve as a resource in areas of expertise. Participate in student training programs and adhere to the ASHA Code of Ethics.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • Graduate-level practice experience in neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders.

This position offers a hiring range of $60.00 per hour.
