Medstar Health is looking for an Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital! The ideal candidate will be competent in the diagnosis and management of neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders. Shifts will be a combination of weekend, weekday, and holiday coverage.
The Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist will provide Speech Language Pathology services to communicatively and swallow impaired patients under the supervision of a licensed and certified SLP (Speech Language Pathologist). Participates in educational activities and special projects. Assists in achieving Service goals. Maintains the professional image of the Service inside and outside of the hospital.
Evaluates voice, speech, language, cognitive-communication, pragmatic communication, and swallowing abilities of assigned patients. Performs bedside dysphagia evaluation and works toward Dysphagia Evaluation Competencies. Plans and implements rehabilitative procedures for patients using sound clinical reasoning to maximize outcomes and safety.
Counsels patients and families regarding the SLP diagnosis and treatment plan, involving them in treatment planning and referring to appropriate care providers or community services as needed. Documents and bills all clinical activity in accordance with guidelines. Participates in quality improvement and peer review activities.
Maintains an accurate schedule and meets productivity targets. Facilitates communication within the treatment team, including participation in team/family conferences. Keeps supervisor informed about patient progress and professional activities.
Identifies opportunities for process improvement and participates in team meetings and continuing education. Recommends clinical materials and equipment. Demonstrates professional conduct and ensures compliance with hospital policies. Pursues continuing education for professional growth.
Provides training and education to members of multiple professional disciplines. Serves as a professional resource within areas of competency. Participates in student training programs. Adheres to the ASHA Code of Ethics.
Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
Graduate-level practice in neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders.
This position has a hiring range of $60.00 - $60.00.
