Medical Pathology is seeking a Histology Technician in Houston to produce high-quality diagnostic materials for pathologists. You will support grossing, processing, embedding, and slide preparations, ensuring accurate and timely results for clinicians.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates or Bachelors in a related science field, or NAACLS accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program, or 60 credits with biology and chemistry.
  • Valid HT or HTL registration; HT/HTL certification preferred (QIHC).

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality diagnostic materials as requested by the pathologist (grossing, processing, embedding, H&E slides).
  • Perform quality control and document processes in LIS, spreadsheets, and manual methods; manage cases with a hard stop when needed.
  • Clean and maintain instrumentation, benches, archived materials, and related products.

Medical Pathology is committed to delivering the highest quality pathology diagnoses. Our comprehensive diagnostic services address each patient’s unique condition and provide vital and conclusive information to ensure appropriate treatment for our clinician's patients. We uphold the highest standards in quality for our clinicians and their patients.

We foster a personalized relationship with each client to ensure the highest level of service. We process specimens and return results in a quick time frame to give clinicians the information they need to treat their patients appropriately.

The Histology Technician produces high quality diagnostic and testing materials for our Pathologist on specimens received from clients on patients. All three entities are our customers and the work of the Histologist- from start to archive- is expected to be exemplary, with attention to detail and great care to protect and serve these customers in the best manner possible.

Key Job Functions
  1. Produce high quality diagnostic materials as requested by the pathologist to progress each specimen. These materials may be generated in any of the following processes:
    • a. Grossing, processing, embedding and routine H&E slides
    • b. Special stains, recuts, deepers, and other additional slide presentations
    • c. IHC, either in house or through affiliated reference labs
    • d. Supporting send-out, reference or other related work requested by, or of, our laboratory.
  2. Performs Quality Control and documentation of all recorded processes using the laboratory information system, spreadsheets, and manual methods, as applicable. Understands the use of a ‘hard stop’ – holding the progress of a case to facilitate resolution of an issue to facilitate optimal patient care.
  3. Cleans and/or maintains instrumentation, work benches and spaces, archived materials, and other relevant products.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong preference given to Associates or Bachelors degree in a related science filed, or successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program or Associates, Bachelors, or accrued credits of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university, with a combination of 24 hours equally divided between biology and chemistry
  • Valid registration as Histotechnician HT or HTL required, preference give to HT or HTL certification of QIHC
