Job summary

Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) seeks a Histology Technologist to prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination. You will handle accessioning, fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining under a pathologist’s supervision.

The role requires an associate degree with biology/chemistry credits and an ASCP HT certification or equivalent, plus 1 year of clinical lab experience. PRN, on-site position with MSP salary scale and benefits.

Job Description

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include accessioning, fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of human tissue for evaluation. The histotech may be asked to help with frozen sectioning.

The Histotechnician (HT) assures laboratories compliance in meeting the standards set forth by JCAHO, DHEC, CLIA and College of American Pathologist (CAP).

Additional Job Description

Education: Associates degree from an accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).

Experience: At least 1 year of clinical laboratory work experience required.

Credentials: HT(ASCP) certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent. Associates degree from an accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
