PRN: Group Fitness Instructor - (250004T2)
What You Will Do
- Instruct various levels and types of exercise classes safely and effectively.
- Cue proper safety and form during classes.
- Lead groups of 7 or more in accordance with ACSM guidelines for group fitness.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all policies and standards.
- Refer to departmental documentation during orientation for specific duties.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) following all policies, including annual training and UH policies.
Education
- High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree in Exercise Science or related field (Preferred)
- Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or related field (Preferred)
Work Experience
- At least 100 hours of group exercise instruction in the past year (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in equipment used in classes (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED (Required within 90 days)
- General Group Exercise certification and/or a specialty certification (Required)
- Certification from ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or similar (Required within 90 days)
- Additional certifications related to specific fitness classes (e.g., Zumba, Spinning) (Required)
Physical Demands
- Constant standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, and repetitive motions.
- Frequent hearing and eye/hand/foot coordination.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 10% travel expected.
