Job summary

Labcorp in Dallas, TX seeks a Grossing Histotechnologist for a 3rd shift PRN role. Responsibilities include processing tissue samples, preparing slides with a microtome, performing immunohistochemistry, and maintaining instruments to ensure timely, quality results.

Strong histology background and color vision compliance are required. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Histology or related science with 2+ years histology experience; ASCP certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Histology or a related chemical/biological science with 2+ years histology experience.
• ASCP certifications are preferred; prior Labcorp experience in Histology is advantageous.
• Able to pass color blindness test and work in a high-volume histology lab.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam.
• Prepare histopathology slides using a microtome and mount sections on slides.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections.
• Section embedded tissue and stain/mount slides accurately.
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
• Record test results promptly to support quality patient care.
• Follow QC policies and SOPs and document problems for corrective actions.

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 2 or more years of histology experience
• Preferred Qualification: Current or prior Labcorp experience Histology and/or ASCP certifications 2 years or more experience in Histology 1 years or more of grossing experience

Additional Job Standards

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Immunohistochemistry experience
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
