Job summary

Labcorp is hiring a Histotechnologist to join the Histology team in Shelton, CT. The role involves processing tissue and body fluids for microscopic evaluation, producing histology slides, and performing immunohistochemical tests.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced lab are essential. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Histology or related field with histology experience; ASCP certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Histology or a related science with 1+ year histology experience.
• Preferred: 3 months or more histology experience.
• ASCP certification preferred.
• Comfort with high-volume laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam.
• Produce histopathology slides from surgical specimens.
• Section embedding of tissue and mounting on slides.
• Conduct immunohistochemical tests on FFPE tissue sections.
• Perform routine and special staining procedures.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 1 or more years of histology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of histology experience
• 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
