Job summary

The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) in our Cedar Falls Clinic is seeking a patient centeredPRN/HourlySonographer to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures and assist in invasive procedures.

Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures, consult with the interpreting physician, document exam information and maintain quality control. Instruct students and residents, ensure ARDMS certification, and maintain equipment as required.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of an accredited program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology, or an equivalent health science pathway with specialized Sonography training.
• Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within 9 months of employment in at least one specialty area (abdomen or OB/GYN) is required.
• Driver's License and ability to meet University fleet safety standards are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler.
• Consult with the interpreting physician regarding the ultrasound exam findings.
• Document exam information as required by departmental standards.
• Evaluate images of ultrasound exams and determine diagnostic quality.
• Provide information and instructions to patients and families about procedures.
• Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
• Instruct and evaluate sonography students on operation of diagnostic equipment.
• Instruct medical residents on operation of diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain quality control within the ultrasound section.
• Determine equipment malfunctions and contact repair service.
• Perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed.
• Maintain ARDMS certification as required.
