Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (PRN) to join the Ultrasonic Unit. This role involves performing ultrasound studies across obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retroperitoneal, vascular, and pediatric exams, while collaborating with physicians and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

The position supports scheduling, image management via PACS, and after-hours responsibilities, with ongoing education for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
• One year of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound studies including obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, vascular, and small parts.
• Consult with referring physicians regarding history and equipment needs for diagnosis.
• Educate patients about procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety during and after the exam.
• Assist with scheduling and prioritizing ultrasound appointments.
• Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
• Report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
• Process billing via RIS.
• Maintain ultrasound equipment and notify engineering of issues.
• Prepare exam rooms with linen and supplies.
• Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents.
• Orient new caregivers to procedures and scanning protocols.
• Demonstrate ultrasound equipment to caregivers and visitors.
• Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and locations.
