Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks a CT technologist to perform CT exams per protocol with minimal radiation, while ensuring patient safety and clear handoffs. You will prepare patients, verify identities, and review histories to determine exam appropriateness.

You will train radiography students and new staff, supervise per policy, and operate RIS, PACS and Work Day. ARRT CT certification, Iowa license, BLS, and mandatory reporter training are required.

Formación

• One year CT experience preferred.
• ARRT CT certification and Iowa permit required.

Responsabilidades

• Communicate accurate information to patients, families and co-workers at handoffs and other times as needed.
• Ensure appropriate parties have necessary information for the best patient outcome.
• Perform CT exams per protocol with minimal radiation to obtain a quality image.
• Explain and prepare patients for all CT exams.
• Demonstrate knowledge of RIS, PACS, Work Day and related software.
• Identify patients correctly and verify the exam to be performed.
• Review patient history and clinical diagnosis for exam appropriateness.
• Review CT images for technique, positioning, demographics and quality; repeat if needed.
• Establish IV access using sterile technique for contrast media.
• Support the School of Radiology educational process.
• Supervise students as per policy and train radiography staff.
• Follow safety regulations and reporting of unsafe conditions.

Summary

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing computed tomography procedures, including CT procedures of an invasive nature.

Job Description

Job Duties

• Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed.
• Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
• Performs CT exams according to established protocol and with the least amount of radiation needed to obtain a quality image.
• Explains and prepares the patient for all CT exams.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, Work Day and other computer software as assigned.
• Identifies each patient correctly verifying the exam to be performed.
• Reviews each patient's medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of exam.
• Reviews CT images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeats images of poor quality.
• Establishes intravenous access, using sterile technique, to inject contrast media.
• Supports the School of Radiology educational process.
• Supervises students as outlined in the Student Supervision policy.
• Trains radiography students and new employees while providing quality patient care.
• Adheres to the Iowa Department of Public Health Radiation Safety Regulations as it applies to worker and patient safety in the CT department.
• Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
• Completes a minimum of one shift per month per PRN policy requirement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Competent in using diagnostic (fixed and portable) x-ray equipment.
• Competent with Computed Tomography equipment and scanning.
• Competent in using department information systems and PACS.

Professional Experience

One year experience in CT preferred.

Education

Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

• American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or (CT) certificate required.
• Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.

Physical Requirements

Medium: Exert 20-50lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently.
