Job summary

Cantex in Round Rock, TX seeks a Certified Medication Aide (PRN) who is a State-certified Nursing Assistant and has a valid medication administration certificate. The role administers oral and topical meds under a licensed nurse, follows the five rights, records doses, monitors for reactions, and maintains safe medication rooms.

Strong English communication is required; flexibility for PRN shifts is essential.

Qualifications

• State certification as a Nursing Assistant is mandatory.
• State approved medication administration certification (where required).
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the five rights of medication administration.
• May take and record vital signs of patients/residents as assigned or as required by medications.
• Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
• Observes for and reports any reactions or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse.
• Administers PRN medications in accordance with regulations and facility policy.
• Documents reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
• May dispense narcotics and must account for them under supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse.
• Secures medication carts/rooms per regulations and policy.
• Attends facility education in-services.
• May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse.
