Job summary

Cantex in Pearland, TX is seeking a Certified Medication Aide to administer medications to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse, following state and federal regulations. The role emphasizes patient safety, accuracy and compassionate care.

Responsibilities include documenting medication administration, observing for reactions, and participating in quality assurance. Team leadership and adherence to policies are expected, along with ongoing facility education.

Qualifications

• State certification as a Nursing Assistant mandatory.
• State approved medication administration certification (where required).
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the five rights of medication administration.
• May take and record vital signs as assigned or required by medications.
• Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
• Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects to a licensed nurse.
• Administers PRN medications per regulations and facility policy.
• Documents reason for and response to PRN medications.
• May dispense narcotics under supervision and account for them.
• Secures medication carts/rooms per regulations and policy.
• Attends facility education in-services.
• May make observation rounds under supervision of licensed nurse.
• May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned.
• Ensures medication room, med carts and refrigerators are clean and organized.
• Removes expired medications per policy and procedures.
• Attends Quality Assurance meetings; acts as a team leader/role model.
