Job description

The Chaplain’s primary responsibility is to provide spiritual support tailored to meet unique spiritual and emotional needs with respect for the spiritual beliefs of residents and families. Spiritual care is provided in consultation with the Manager of Spiritual Care Services and in cooperation with the Spiritual Care Services and Interdisciplinary teams. The Chaplain also provides spiritual support for associates, which may include referring them to EAP, HR, and/or community clergy/spiritual leader. The Chaplain serves as a liaison, connecting residents to community clergy/spiritual leaders and congregations.

This is a PRN (as needed) position to help ensure full coverage for our community.


Responsibilities
  • Responds to provide pastoral care and visitation to residents both on and off campus (e.g., local hospitals).
  • Responds to offer support and maintain contact with the families and/or loved ones of these residents thru the end of life and bereavement process as appropriate and communicates follow-up needs to the Manager of Spiritual Care Services and other appropriate team members.
  • Shares in on call coverage on a rotating basis and responds to meet pastoral needs upon crises, deaths, and/ or other types of spiritual distress. Communicates follow up needs with the Manager of Spiritual Care Services and other appropriate team members.
  • Plans and conducts special worship services, especially surrounding major religious observances.
  • Coordinates, arranges and/or officiates memorial services, celebrations of life, and remembrance gatherings at WCBR.
  • Contributes to the Care Plan process as requested. Communicates information essential to effective care planning to the Manager of Spiritual Care services and other appropriate associates. Serves as a resource to care teams when pastoral needs are identified.
Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work well with residents and associates; possesses a strong initiative in engaging with residents and associates and developing programs and events. Is attentive to detail with an ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Requirements
  • Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited seminary.
  • Must be ordained and in good standing with their respective denomination.
  • A minimum of five years in a pastoral setting with an emphasis and some experience in long-term care, acute care, or hospice care.
  • Experience in a CCRC setting is preferred.
