Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Geologist/Hydrogeologist (NS) to lead the Pre-Regulatory Landfill (PRLF) program. The role involves staff leadership, complex data interpretation, stakeholder outreach, and policy implementation within the PRLF framework.

You will coordinate statewide sampling, GIS layer development, and contract administration, while guiding redevelopment inquiries and site prioritization, with a hybrid telework option available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or related field, or engineering with 30 credits in geological science.
  • Possibly licensure as Professional Geologist by NC board or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with GIS, site assessment, vapor intrusion, risk assessment and remediation/mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Draft/revise guidance and documents for PRLF work and provide internal/external training.
  • Lead annual outreach efforts to local governments and property owners on PRLF status.
  • Coordinate redevelopment with Brownfields and other programs.
  • Assist Unit Supervisor with work assignments, budgeting, and contract administration.
  • Lead contracts, encumbrances, and quarterly contractor meetings.
  • Lead GIS projects and maintain PRLF website.
