Job summary

Bank of America in the United States seeks an experienced attorney to join the Private Bank and Merrill Legal Accounts Counsel and Pre-Litigation team. The role provides legal support on client account opening, servicing, pre-litigation matters, and fiduciary issues impacting Private Bank and Merrill businesses.

Qualifications

• Licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one state Bank of America does business.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience as an attorney in a law firm, government agency, or in-house environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; executive presence when dealing with senior leaders.
• Excellent issue spotting, risk assessment, research, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage many matters in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to collaborate with lawyers, business partners, and compliance professionals.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes legal issues and implications on consumer banking and wealth management products and regulatory matters.
• Provides clear, actionable legal advice to business partners, including leadership when needed.
• Interprets rulings, laws, and regulations from compliance and business control perspectives.
• Drafts, reviews, and negotiates complex documents such as engagement letters and legal opinions.
• Gathers and evaluates information from various sources to form judgments.
• Supports responses to examinations, investigations, and litigation.
• Reviews wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related fiduciary documents.
• Delivers practical legal advice regarding investment products in fiduciary and brokerage accounts.
