Job summary

Bank of America is seeking a seasoned attorney to join the Private Bank and Merrill Legal Accounts Counsel and Pre-Litigation team in Chicago, New York, or Boston. You will provide legal support on client account opening, servicing, disputes, and fiduciary matters, delivering practical guidance to partners and managing regulatory risks.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in at least one state Bank of America does business in.
• 5+ years of relevant experience as an attorney in a law firm, government agency, or in-house environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with executive presence when dealing with senior leaders.
• Strong issue spotting, risk assessment, research, and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage a large matter load and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborate with lawyers, business partners, and risk professionals while offering differing opinions.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes legal issues and implications on consumer banking and wealth management products, services, and regulatory matters.
• Communicates clear, concise, actionable legal advice to business partners and leadership.
• Interprets rulings, laws, and regulations from compliance and business control perspectives.
• Drafts, reviews, and negotiates complex legal documents (engagement letters, debt agreements, opinions).
• Gathers and evaluates information from various sources to form judgments.
• Supports responses to examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions.
• Reviews wills and trusts, powers of attorney, and related documents under state law.
• Delivers practical legal advice on investment products in fiduciary and brokerage accounts.
