Job summary

Plaid is seeking a seasoned Privacy & Regulatory Counsel to join our Legal team in San Francisco. You will partner with cross-functional teams to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues, provide practical guidance, and support business initiatives in compliance with applicable laws.

The role requires a J.D. and 5+ years of experience, deep knowledge of US financial-services/privacy/AI regulations, and the ability to translate regulatory expectations into actionable guidance.

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent law degree and active state bar membership.
• 5+ years of legal experience providing solutions-oriented advice.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. financial-services, consumer-protection, privacy, and AI/ADMT regulations.
• Experience with GLBA, FCRA, UDAAP, PIPEDA, GDPR, state privacy laws and related frameworks.
• Experience monitoring statutes, regulations, guidance, enforcement actions, and regulatory trends; provide actionable guidance to business partners.
• Familiarity with regulatory-change management, compliance-program design, policy governance, risk assessments, control implementation.
• Strong legal judgment, analytical skills, issue-spotting, organization and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex issues to non-lawyers.
• Collaborative and proactive; able to drive follow-through in a fast-moving environment.
• Experience in regulated industries is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze new or changing laws, regulations, and guidance and translate into concise guidance.
• Answer questions about regulatory compliance for Product, Governance, People, and cross-functional teams.
• Maintain Plaid’s regulatory policies, positions, and analyses.
• Support Policy team on engagement with policymakers, regulators, and government officials.
• Partner with Compliance, Security, and owners to assess risks and implement updates.
• Create training and enablement materials to help teams understand regulatory requirements.
