Job summary

New York City Emergency Management seeks a skilled Attorney with expertise in privacy law and data protection. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance on privacy compliance, IT contracts, and policy issues across NYCEM.

The role involves on-call EOC duties, collaboration with IT, security, and other agencies, and leading privacy initiatives to protect resident data. The selected candidate will draft and negotiate complex IT and data processing agreements,

Qualifications

• JD or equivalent required; admission to practice in NY or eligible.
• 2+ years in privacy, data protection, or IT contracting.
• Ability to advise across agency and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal guidance at the intersection of law and technology.
• Attend meetings, coordinate with IT, security, and agency units.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IT agreements and data processing contracts.
• Monitor evolving privacy laws at federal, state, and local levels.
• Support incident response and data breach investigations.
• Lead special projects and supervise staff during absences.
• Prepare legal documents and brief agency leadership on issues.
