Job summary

Whitman College in Washington is seeking a Printmaking Lab Assistant on a work-study basis to support the FCVA’s printmaking studio for Fall 2026, with possible extension depending on hours and performance.

As a student tech, you will monitor safety, maintain equipment, keep studios clean, assist with art projects, and help with signage and space organization under supervision of the Studio and Safety Technician and Printmaking Faculty.

Qualifications

• A working knowledge of basic printmaking tools is desirable.
• Motivation to learn maintaining printmaking equipment and studio spaces.

Job description

JOB TITLE: Printmaking Lab Assistant - Work Study
PAY: $17.13 - $17.13/hour
HOURS: Approx 4hrs Per Week
START DATE: As Soon As Hired
END DATE: 12/11/26

JOB PURPOSE:
Fouts Center for Visual Arts is accepting applications for a Printmaking Lab Assistant for Fall 2026, with the possibility of Spring 2027 depending on the availability of hours and performance. Work-Study eligible students will be given priority. Successful student hires will work under the direction of the FCVA Studio and Safety Technician and Printmaking Faculty.

Student techs will be tasked with regular duties such as monitoring for safety issues, regular testing and maintenance of equipment, maintaining cleanliness and organization of studios, monitoring inventories, and class material preparation. Additionally, they will assist the staff and faculty with various special tasks often involving equipment repairs, reorganizing the spaces, updating signage, and assisting with art projects.

HOURS:
4hrs are available each week and can be broken into smaller shifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A working knowledge of basic skills using printmaking tools and equipment is desirable, but not necessary. Successful candidates will be highly motivated to learn to maintain printmaking equipment, tools, and studio spaces.
