Job summary

Silgan Closures in Hazleton, PA seeks a Printing and Coating Engineer to lead metal coil coating, printing, and associated processes. The role emphasizes project leadership, process improvements, and equipment optimization to boost quality, safety, and efficiency.

You will work with plant teams and OEMs, train staff, troubleshoot complex equipment, and ensure compliance with safety standards while supporting travel to other sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing or industrial engineering or related field
• Significant experience in can manufacturing, coil coating, printing, metal packaging, or coating operations may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Ability to travel up to 50% to assist plants in IN and Hazleton, PA

Responsibilities

• Lead process improvements that enhance quality, safety, and production efficiency
• Support coil coating, printing, curing ovens, oxidizers, and heat recovery systems
• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment and identify root causes of operational issues
• Lead equipment installations, audits, overhauls, and qualification activities
• Collaborate with plant teams and OEM suppliers to develop new products and manufacturing solutions
• Train operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel on equipment setup, operation, and safety requirements
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, including LOTO, machine guarding, confined space, and safe work practices

This role is ideal for a Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Coating Engineer, Packaging Engineer, or Industrial Engineer with experience in metal packaging, coil coating, printing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

As a Printing and Coating Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and engineering support for metal coil cutting, sheet coating, printing, oven curing, and related manufacturing processes.

What you will do:

• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment and identify root causes of operational issues
• Lead equipment installations, audits, overhauls, and qualification activities
• Collaborate with plant teams and OEM suppliers to develop new products and manufacturing solutions

What you'll need to have:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing or industrial engineering or related field
• Significant experience in can manufacturing, coil coating, printing, metal packaging, or coating operations may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to travel up to 50% to assist plants in Richmond, IN and Evansville, IN, in addition to the Hazleton plant
• Experience with manufacturing equipment, process optimization, and continuous improvement
• Ability to read engineering drawings and utilize precision measuring tools
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Continuous Improvement methodologies
• AutoCAD proficiency preferred
• Working knowledge of coatings, solvents, oven systems, oxidizers, heat recovery systems, and LEL detectors
