Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. is seeking a Principal UX Designer to define and own the end-to-end design strategy for OpenSearch, spanning search, observability, and agentic AI experiences used by hundreds of thousands of customers.

You will partner with the GM and senior engineering leaders to shape how enterprises discover and adopt OpenSearch across console, IDE, MCP, and CLI surfaces. This high-impact IC role requires elite interaction design craft and deep technical fluency.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional UX/Product design experience, with senior level exposure
• Shipped enterprise-scale B2B products with data-intensive interfaces
• Deep expertise in design systems, governance, and cross-team adoption
• Strong technical fluency and ability to read/contribute to production code (HTML/CSS/JS, React/TypeScript)
• Experience designing complex data visualization dashboards, query interfaces, or monitoring systems
• Track record of influencing product strategy at organizational level
• Experience leading or mentoring a team of senior designers

Responsibilities

• Define the long-term UX vision and roadmap for OpenSearch products (Search, Observability, Serverless, AI/ML)
• Architect and govern agentic design patterns across OpenSearch portfolio
• Lead agent-guided onboarding experiences to accelerate customer migration and adoption
• Own multi-surface experience strategy across IDE, MCP, CLI, and web
• Drive design-as-code practices by prototyping and committing production-ready code
• Scale impact via the OpenSearch UI design system and DesignBrain tooling
• Establish UX quality benchmarks and lead global critique sessions
• Mentor senior designers and provide technical guidance
• Present data-driven design narratives in executive reviews linking to business outcomes
• Run structured research cycles to feed product roadmap
