Job description

Own end-to-end product design for core experiences in Amazon OpenSearch Service, with focus on agentic search and agentic observability.

Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end design for a core OpenSearch experience, covering problem framing, research, interaction design, visual craft, production implementation, and post-launch measurement
  • Define the experience for Winnow / agentic search, including how customers express intent, how agent planning and reasoning are surfaced, how results and provenance earn trust, and how customers stay in control
  • Work as a true end-to-end builder while embedded in a builder pod, shaping what gets built and sequencing delivery (not only presentation layer)
  • Design for genuine complexity across high-volume workflows, including search relevance, vector and semantic search, log analytics, dashboards, observability workflows, alerting, and root-cause investigation
  • Help define agentic observability alongside agentic search by designing interfaces that surface agent reasoning, findings, and remediation, with trust as the primary design problem
  • Run research that ships, including structured research cycles, trust-calibration studies, and competitive signal capture that feeds the roadmap directly
  • Contribute to and extend the OpenSearch design system (OUI) to keep patterns consistent, accessible, and scalable across the product
  • Partner daily with PMs and engineers to balance customer needs, deep technical constraints, and business goals
  • Raise the design bar through critique, mentorship, and reusable patterns
Requirements
  • 7+ years of design experience
  • Available online portfolio

A Day in the Life
  • Start with a design review presenting a systems-level concept to product and engineering, covering how a new interaction pattern scales across multiple surfaces
  • Shift into hands-on Figma craft work to refine a prototype based on recent research findings
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment sessions where stakeholders converge on a shared path forward
  • Mentor fellow designers, write persuasive strategy documents, and use AI tools to rapidly explore ideas
About the Team
  • Design team behind Amazon OpenSearch Service, with six designers embedded in OpenSearch builder pods to own the experience from problem framing through production
  • Building net-new patterns for agentic search and agentic observability, focused on how customers trust a system that searches, reasons, and acts
  • Operating principles: end-to-end builders, research that ships, and a self-learning design system (OUI evolving toward agentic patterns)
  • Treat design as a competitive weapon, with senior ownership and a focus on craft, research, and raising each other's work
