Job description

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an exceptional systems engineer for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), the Sentinel weapon system.

This systems engineer will work with a highly skilled team providing critical feedback for the weapon system's requirements. This position will assess and review requirements decomposition developed by the Prime contractor to ensure compliance with U.S. Government (USG) Weapon System Specification (WSS) for the Sentinel weapon system. It also involves coordinating with multiple internal stakeholders to document requirements discrepancies and manage overall requirement quality. The role operates within an organizational culture that promotes high performance in a fast-paced environment, using streamlined policies and procedures. It offers a unique opportunity to influence the development and deployment of a critical national security asset—the next generation intercontinental ballistic missile.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing team within a large defense company known for its positive culture and mission focus. You will support a national security-critical weapon system throughout engineering development, deployment, and sustainment, working with several hundred personnel providing ICBM expertise. You will become a trusted partner to the Air Force, responsible for designing, building, testing, transitioning, and sustaining the world's safest and most effective land-based nuclear deterrent, on schedule.

BAE Systems has been recognized as a "Top Workplace" in Utah for five consecutive years, a testament to our commitment to a healthy work-life balance. Sentinel is a major modernization effort, involving refurbishment of facilities, communications, and a new, technologically advanced missile system, with deployment starting around 2026 and operational until at least 2075. This program offers career-defining challenges and opportunities.

About this Role

A Systems Security Engineer (SSE) designs, implements, and maintains secure systems and networks, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information by identifying vulnerabilities, implementing security measures, and responding to incidents. The SSE will have expertise in security requirements, architecture, threat assessment, networking, security technologies, hardware and software security, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and supply chain security risk assessment. The role involves working with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Mission Partner Teams (MPTs), and stakeholders supporting ICBM systems.

The individual will provide technical expertise in Program Protection efforts, evaluate technology tools, develop and enforce security plans, and contribute to team responsibilities. This position offers opportunities to develop communication and customer relationship skills within a close-knit team of Program Protection professionals.

The successful candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, adaptable to a fast-paced environment, and possess knowledge of DoD and Air Force policies. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in STEM with 7 years or M.S. with 5 years of experience in systems engineering, preferably requirements evaluation and development.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, team-oriented.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Ability to generate ideas and accept feedback.
  • Strong brainstorming and team relationship skills.
  • Strategic and tactical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current Secret clearance adjudicated within the last 5 years or on Continuous Evaluation (CE).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Cameo, DOORS, or other requirements management tools.
  • Experience with DoD/Air Force weapons systems, especially ICBM systems.
  • Knowledge of Security Classification Guides, Program Protection, and Supply Chain Risk Management.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), DoDAF, and SysML.
  • Ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $94,728 - $161,038, based on market data and individual qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k), disability, life insurance, paid time off, holidays, parental and military leave, and employee recognition programs.
