Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking a Principal Engineer interested in leading requirements and specification efforts. Our Portsmouth, RI team primarily supports programs in the naval undersea and naval surface domains, including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. In this role, you will serve as a trusted technical expert and key leader, assisting in addressing complex challenges while ensuring the team operates effectively and efficiently. You will serve as a technical lead responsible for guiding the team in the development, verification, and validation of system requirements. This includes overseeing engineering activities to ensure all requirements are clearly defined, traceable, and rigorously satisfied throughout the system lifecycle. You will review technical work products for completeness and compliance and contribute to the creation and refinement of processes, standards, and methodologies that strengthen system performance and team effectiveness.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the team in defining, managing, and validating system requirements across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Oversee technical work products to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established requirements and standards.
  • Drive the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes, procedures, and methodologies that enhance system performance and team effectiveness.
  • Coordinate system architecture, integration, verification, and deployment activities to ensure alignment with project objectives and traceable requirements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to resolve technical issues, mitigate risks, and maintain traceability configuration and requirements.
  • Lead in overseeing technical work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Exhibit the ability to overcome obstacles by proactively identifying potential roadblocks, negotiating changes to ensure project success, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive alignment and resolve conflicts.
  • Evaluate contracts, engineering strategies, and operational efficiencies to optimize spending, while identifying financial needs for projects or operations to ensure alignment with overall strategy, and addressing variances between actual and planned spending through corrective actions.
  • Travel, domestic, to support customer events, with an expected travel requirement not exceeding 15%.
What You Will Learn

After completion of comprehensive on-the-job training, the candidate will be a part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) activities across the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with DOORS, Rhapsody, Cameo, and/or other digital engineering tools.
  • Experience with system software, system hardware, system requirements and/or test.
  • Experience with underwater acoustics analysis, sensor systems, and/or naval system development.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Hands-on experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and practices
  • Deep subject matter expertise in systems engineering or a related technical field, including providing guidance and driving technical direction.
  • Experience analyzing system performance metrics and applying optimization techniques to improve capability and efficiency.
  • Experience breaking down complex technical problems, analyzing data, and developing clear, actionable solutions.
  • Experience with technical writing and oral presentations.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
