Raytheon Company, managed by Collins Aerospace at RTX, seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to support US DoD programs in Largo, FL. This onsite role requires a Secret clearance Day 1 and offers growth across the program lifecycle.

You will lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, and integrate systems, maintain CAM/EVMS processes, and ensure MIL-STD compliance while coordinating with management, engineering, supply chain and customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a DoD program as CAM.

Responsibilities

Role Description

The Strategic Defense Solutions (SDS) team is hiring Principal Systems Engineers to support programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. SDS supports multiple Collins contracts and is seeking to fill roles across several open contracts – our goal is to align each new hire with a position that best suits their skills and allows for career growth. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design, development, and integration of products, from concept to production. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure seamless system performance and deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs. This position requires: US Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance Day 1. Onsite: This is an onsite role supporting our Largo, FL location. Sign-on Bonus Eligible

What YOU will do
  • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM), ensuring compliance with EVMS principles, performing variance analysis, maintaining accurate earned value data, and supporting regular reporting cycles
  • Manage systems engineering scope, schedule, and cost and drive accountability
  • Coordinate technical execution and ensure alignment with program requirements, milestones, and customer commitments
  • Develops and maintains detailed program plans, including staffing forecasts, risk registers, and mitigation strategies
  • Interface regularly with program management, engineering leadership, supply chain, operations, and customer representatives
  • Lead problem resolution activities, support design reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement across the program
  • Support proposal development, including cost basis, BOEs, and technical planning inputs.
  • Provide clear, consistent communication to leadership regarding program health, challenges, and opportunities
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Experience on a DoD program as an engineering team lead including CAM experience
  • Experience with DoD systems engineering processes, Technical Reviews and Audits, and MIL-STD compliance
  • Proven experience in all phases of program lifecycle including requirements development, design/development, integration & test and deployment
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government (DoD) Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain an active U.S. Government (DoD) Top Secret Clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Demonstrated ability to create verification plans, conduct test procedures, and manage requirement traceability matrices (e.g., in IBM DOORS, Cameo) to ensure system compliance.
  • Knowledge of configuration management practices to manage system changes, revisions, and baselines throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Ability to write comprehensive test reports, discrepancy reports (DRs), and system evaluation reports for customer review.
  • Knowledge of military specifications (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1472) for designing rugged and reliable systems
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Top Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
