Job summary

Averro has a global defense client seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead precision guidance technology development for guided munition programs in Washington. You will work with internal and external customers to define requirements, build verification plans, and develop architectures via MBSE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• 5–10+ years of Systems Engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3–5+ years with a Master’s/PhD; 8+ years in lieu.
• Experience with MBSE using SysML tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or Papyrus.
• Knowledge of requirements management and verification matrices using tools such as Cameo.
• Experience documenting system and subsystem architectures.
• Experience planning system integration and verification, with electrical, software, and mechanical exposure preferred.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Define system and subsystem solutions with cross-discipline engineers.
• Perform requirements and functional analyses, trade studies, and interface definition.
• Decompose customer requirements into system, subsystem, and software requirements.
• Manage RVTM and verification traceability databases.
• Develop system architectures using model-based design and define critical interfaces.
• Plan and support system integration and verification activities.
• Troubleshoot and test systems using measurement instruments.
• Lead system-level risk management and root-cause analysis.
• Draft subcontractor SOWs and evaluate vendor products.
• Present technical briefings to customers and review design/programs.
• Support proposals with engineering input for BD and R&D strategy.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead small teams.

Our global defense client is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the development of precision guidance technologies for guided munition programs. You will partner with internal and external customers to define requirements, build verification plans, and develop system and subsystem architectures using a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach. You will also recommend systems engineering tools, define processes, and support business development. The position offers a 4/9 work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Reliability, Safety, Cybersecurity, and Test & Integration engineers to define system and subsystem solutions
• Perform requirements analysis, functional analysis, performance analysis, trade studies, and interface definition
• Decompose customer requirements into system, subsystem, and software requirements
• Manage the requirements database and verification methods, maintain traceability, and produce Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices (RVTMs)
• Develop and document system and subsystem architectures using model based design, including physical views, system elements, and critical interfaces
• Plan and support system integration and verification, including hardware and software test procedures
• Troubleshoot and test systems using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
• Lead system level risk management, perform FMEA, and lead root cause analysis and corrective action
• Develop subcontractor Statements of Work and evaluate vendor products, COTS components, and GFE/CFE for design feasibility
• Present technical briefings to internal and external customers and participate in design and program reviews
• Support business development with engineering input for proposals and collaborate on internal R&D strategy
• Mentor less experienced engineers and lead technical tasks for small teams or projects

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (physics, optics, electrical, mechanical, or aerospace)
• 5 to 10+ years of Systems Engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 to 5+ years with a Master’s or PhD. 8+ years equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience with MBSE using SysML tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or Papyrus
• Knowledge of requirements management and verification matrices using tools such as Cameo
• Experience documenting system and subsystem architectures
• Experience planning system integration and verification, with electrical, software, and mechanical exposure preferred
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred

• Early lifecycle technology development experience in aerospace or defense
• Experience with guided munitions, missile, or GNC systems
• Technical leadership experience, including customer engagement and mentoring
• Experience drafting subcontractor Statements of Work
