Stormentum Inc. seeks a Staff Systems Design Architect to lead system-level architecture for a modular power electronics platform, interfacing with energy storage, data centers, and the grid.
You will translate requirements into hardware, firmware, and controls specs and guide hardware and firmware teams through design, integration, and production. You will own system-level trade-offs, run simulations, and shepherd 3rd-party integrations and certifications, collaborating with multiple
Stormentum builds power infrastructure for AI data centers, EV charging, and microgrids. Our patented, modular power electronics architecture merges UPS, battery, and rectifier stages into one platform, from grid to GPU, with fewer conversion stages and more compute from every megawatt. Founded by executives with decades of leadership across technology, wireless, and energy, we’re bringing together world-class engineering talent to rethink how power is delivered.
At Stormentum you will join a team of engineers developing a distributed, modular power electronics conversion platform, built for data centers and microgrids. As Staff Systems Design Architect, you will operate at the system level, translating product requirements into actionable engineering specifications, defining how subsystems interact, and guiding hardware and firmware teams on the best way to build it. You will own the architecture that ties the platform together: how the distributed power cells interface with each other and with energy storage, data center loads, and the electrical grid, taking it from design through integration, certification, and production.
A systems thinker. You see the full picture before the details. You are as comfortable defining how subsystems interact as you are diving into the tradeoffs within them.
An owner. You have taken systems from concept to production and you know what it takes to get there. You do not hand off and walk away, you see it through.
A builder. You thrive in environments where the architecture does not yet exist. You are energized by defining it from scratch and guiding a team to execute against it.
A cross-functional partner. You have led design reviews, risk assessments, and cross-functional teams across hardware, firmware, controls, and mechanical disciplines. You earn trust through technical depth and clear communication.
Grid-fluent. You understand how power electronics systems interact with the grid, energy storage, and the loads they serve, from data centers to microgrids, and you bring that knowledge to every architectural decision.
Define and decompose system-level requirements into hardware, firmware, controls, and integration specifications
Develop and maintain system block diagrams and interface control documents
Define system-level performance and safety test requirements and support the development of automated test equipment to accelerate testing
Own and report on architectural trade-offs across high voltage, low voltage, mechanical, and communications domains
Lead engineering teams through the Hazard and Risk Assessment and support the DFMEA, PFMEA, and safety test processes
Design the system integration architecture connecting Stormentum’s platform with energy storage, generators, data center and microgrid loads, and the electrical grid
Run system-level simulations to evaluate design options and guide engineering decisions
Lead the product through 3rd-party integrations and support certification including UL and applicable grid codes
Serve as the primary technical liaison between product and engineering, translating customer, installer, utility, and regulatory requirements into engineering direction
Lead system-level design reviews and risk assessments across subsystems
Manage the handoff from design through manufacturing ensuring designs are optimized for production
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, controls, and hardware teams across the full product lifecycle
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics
5+ years of experience in electrical systems design, including at least one full product cycle taking distinct products from concept to production
Deep experience integrating power electronics systems with external interfaces, such as the grid, energy storage, servers, microgrids, or distributed energy resources
Experience with high-voltage power conversion systems at 400 V and above, such as grid-tied inverters, energy storage, EV charging, or industrial power equipment
Deep experience building system-level electrical physics models in MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools, and analyzing topologies and component parameters to find optimal solutions to product-level requirements
Breadth across high voltage, low voltage, mechanical, thermal, and communications domains
Experience with processes similar to those outlined in UL 1998, UL 991, IEC 62477-1, and IEC 61508
Experience collaborating or leading Hazard and Risk Assessments and DFMEA
Experience with data center power hardware, such as 480V AC three phase and 800 VDC rack power systems or power shelves, or with modular multilevel converter architectures
Experience with grid-tied inverter systems
Knowledge of grid-forming inverter technologies and advanced grid-support functions
Experience maintaining requirements within tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion
Familiarity with UL 62368-1, UL 1973, NFPA 855, UL 1741 SA/SB, IEEE 1547, and UL 9540
Familiarity with international grid standards including IEC or UL 62368-1
