Job summary

A defense contracting firm in Tucson is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer. The successful candidate will lead safety programs for military standards, coordinate safety approvals, and perform hazard analyses. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. This full-time position offers competitive benefits and requires expertise in system safety engineering and related fields.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Experience leading MIL‑STD‑882E compliant system safety programs.
• Proven experience with command and control/weapon combat systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead MIL‑STD‑882E compliant system safety programs.
• Coordinate with customer safety representatives for safety approvals.
• Perform system safety program and hazard analyses.
• Working across all integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
• Performing System Safety Program, Hazard analyses or Design analyses.
• Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and during safety approval processes.
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.

Principal System Safety Engineer

• Leading one or more MIL‑STD‑882E compliant system safety programs
• Performing MIL‑STD‑882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses
• Co‑ordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
• Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
• Performing System Safety Program, Hazard analyses or Design analyses
• Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program

Experience with: System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering.

• Experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems
• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs
• Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
