Join the Substation Division and play a pivotal role in designing groundbreaking systems that advance the reliability and efficiency of North America’s power infrastructure.

Your Role

As a Principal System Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead Cutting-Edge Design: Oversee and drive advanced design studies for FACTS and HVDC systems, tackling challenges like harmonic filter design, loss calculations, noise analysis, and control performance.
  • Innovate Equipment Development: Pioneer new methods and improvements in the design and rating of FACTS and HVDC equipment, including power electronic converters and large power transformers.
  • Elevate System Performance: Provide expert consultation on protection, control systems, and operational strategies, while guiding commissioning testing and troubleshooting of FACTS and HVDC systems in the field.
  • Collaborate Globally: Work with Mitsubishi Electric’s global engineering teams to shape the future of FACTS and HVDC technologies, sharing insights from industry trends and emerging innovations.
  • Support Strategic Growth: Partner with sales teams to develop compelling technical proposals, lead customer presentations, and influence industry standards through active participation in technical committees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design one-line diagrams and perform critical analyses, including harmonic filtering, loss calculations, and control performance studies.
  • Coordinate system design through equipment factory tests and real-time digital simulator testing.
  • Mentor field engineers, troubleshoot systems, and deliver timely solutions to installation and operational challenges.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, ensuring cost-effective and uniform practices.
  • Influence industry trends by engaging with trade organizations and maintaining a robust network of contacts.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while ensuring the highest levels of system reliability and performance.

What You Bring

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Power Electronics Engineering with 10+ years of experience in FACTS or HVDC system engineering.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of power electronics, substation theory, protection, and control, along with harmonic filtering design methods.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to conceptualize innovative solutions and improve existing designs to meet evolving market needs.
  • Communication Skills: Advanced interpersonal, presentation, and technical writing abilities to effectively engage with customers, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Technical Tools: Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and power system simulation software, as well as advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Visionary Thinking: A strong ability to analyze market needs and develop product roadmaps that shape the future of power transmission.
