If this resonates with you, come and join our Data Center GPU organization where we are building amazing AI powered products with amazing people.

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Lead / Principal Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s products, you will play a vital role in improving AMD’s ability to deliver high-quality, industry-leading technologies to market. The Systems Design Engineering team encourages continuous technical innovation, professional growth, and career development, and you will be a key driver of these efforts.

The Person

As a leader in Systems Design Engineering, you will be responsible for driving scalable, balanced, and automated solutions. In this high-visibility role, your expertise in software systems engineering will be critical to product development, definition, and root cause resolution. Your ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams will ensure the continued success of AMD’s product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Release & Maintain Product Requirements: Create and maintain rack-level product requirement documents that align with both customer and business needs.
  • Translate Requirements: Break down and translate product requirements into actionable tasks for engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work with engineering teams to deliver product roadmaps, analyze product development risks, and assess manufacturability.
  • Verification & Validation: Establish and lead verification and validation (V&V) strategies, including Design of Experiments (DOEs), to identify and mitigate product risks through pre- and post-silicon V&V and direct evaluations.
  • Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution: Lead issue prioritization, root cause analysis, and resolve product issues throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Documentation & Design Processes: Establish documentation and design processes to meet production volumes and quality metrics.
  • Technical Communication: Communicate technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership and external stakeholders.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Support design and development of NPI and mass production testing for AMD product lines (up to 20 variants/SKUs) to ensure optimal test coverage.
  • Handover Management: Own the management and technical readiness for the transition from NPI to mass production and manage the TR (Technical Release) to MP (Mass Production) handover process.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams through the design phase, mass production, and end-of-life of the product.
  • Supplier Coordination: Coordinate with external suppliers and subcontractors to support the design team.
  • Customer Issues & Escalations: Drive customer issue resolution and manage escalations in alignment with the program manager.
  • Flagship Product Support: Wear multiple hats to drive flagship products to success, particularly in the Instinct product line.
  • DFT Implementation & Verification: Oversee the implementation and verification of DFT (Design for Test) architecture and features.
  • Test Coverage Analysis: Perform test coverage and cost-reduction analysis.
  • Post-Silicon Support: Provide post-silicon support to ensure successful bring-up and enhance yield learning.

Preferred Experience

  • Extensive experience in system/board/platform-level debug, including delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of debug techniques and methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with rack-level design and debug.
  • In-depth knowledge of system architecture, technical debugging, and validation strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, capable of independently driving tasks to completion.
  • Proven experience in technology product delivery, preferably in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience as a product or test engineer in a technology-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with diagnostics and testing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in documenting experimental results in a structured, easy-to-reference manner.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams.
