Job summary

RTX is seeking a senior structural engineer onsite in the United States to provide analytical support across design, validation, certification, and service. You will apply FEM/FEA methods to assess strength, deflection, vibration and fatigue, and guide cross-disciplinary teams on durability and cost trade‑offs.

The role requires a strong background in turbomachinery, advanced ANSYS skills, and proven leadership in engineering improvement. Security clearance is required or beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of structures experience or advanced degree with 5+ years.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain security clearance.
  • Experience with FEM/FEA including stress, vibration, LCF/HCF, and damage tolerance.
  • Strong communication and leadership for cross‑functional teams.
  • Background in turbomachinery and structural analysis methods.

What You Will Do
  • Provide analytical support for detailed design, through development, validation, certification, manufacturing and operational service.
  • Use FE and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, damage tolerance, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses.
  • Cover validation testing (engine and rig) and data-reduction.
  • Support in‑service field investigations.
  • Participate on multi‑discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.
  • Provide leadership oversight and technical guidance for less experienced engineers and outsourced tasks.
  • Coordinate with others to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
  • Document and present results to management and external customers.
Qualifications
  • You Must Have Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) with 8+ years of structures experience OR Advanced degree with 5+ years of structures experience
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Background in structural analysis with demonstrated problem solving skills using FEM for stress/deflection, vibration, and performing LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics or Kinematics analyses.
  • Strong communication and task leadership/coordination skills.
  • Structures experience including analytical methods (FEA), hand calculations, and spreadsheet methods
  • Background in turbomachinery
  • Experience analyzing strength, stress, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and trending skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with ANSYS APDL and / or Workbench.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engineering continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • A security clearance is beneficial but not required.
What We Offer Relocation Eligibility

Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models.

CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products.

Technical disciplines in CSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition.

What is my role type?

This role is: Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines. Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
