Job description

As the Principal Strategy Advisor, you will be part of the team that plays a key leadership role in making MISO’s core operations strategy clear, connected, and actionable across Market Operations, System Operations, Transmission Planning, and Resource Planning. You will partner directly with senior leaders to shape multi-year strategy, identify and prioritize the business capabilities MISO will need for the future, and translate enterprise priorities, operational risks, and rapidly evolving industry conditions into actionable plans. This role challenges assumptions, brings forward insights and external perspective, and helps leaders navigate tradeoffs, dependencies, and complex strategic decisions. Success in this role requires curiosity, strong relationships, sound judgment, and the ability to build alignment and influence across the organization without relying on formal authority.

You will also have the opportunity to work on:
  • Leading and maturing multi-year Operations and Planning strategies, including defining priorities, business capability needs, outcomes, sequencing, dependencies, and measures of progress
  • Shaping and advancing MISO’s Reliability Imperative priorities, including Operations of the Future and Market Redefinition, while helping MISO prepare for significant load growth, changing resource characteristics, increasing operational uncertainty, and other emerging reliability needs
  • Advising senior leaders on operational risks, capability gaps, investment needs, priorities, and strategic tradeoffs, using industry, regulatory, technology, and market insights to develop clear recommendations and roadmaps
  • Connecting strategy and building alignment across Market Operations, System Operations, Transmission Planning, Resource Planning, and enabling teams, helping move strategic priorities from direction to action

In one year as our Principal Strategy Advisor, you will know you were successful if you have become a trusted strategic partner to leaders across your assigned operations or planning area and are helping them make clearer, more deliberate decisions about priorities, capability needs, sequencing, risks, and tradeoffs. The strategies and plans you help shape will be clearer, more connected to business outcomes and enterprise priorities, and better aligned across Operations, Planning, and enabling teams. You will also be bringing forward new perspectives, anticipating emerging industry challenges, and helping move complex or ambiguous issues toward decisions and action.

We are looking for hardworking professionals who have:
  • Experience partnering with leaders and cross-functional teams to define problems, evaluate priorities and tradeoffs, develop recommendations, and translate strategic direction into actionable plans
  • Experience influencing across organizational boundaries without direct authority, facilitating discussions with senior leaders, building alignment among diverse stakeholders, and communicating complex topics clearly
  • Experience with progressively responsible work in strategic planning, business planning, operations, engineering, portfolio management, consulting, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience working through complex and ambiguous business or operational challenges

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
