Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to find a Software Engineer in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU) to support a Ground program.

This position may be located at either our Morrisville, NC, Fairfax, VA, or Linthicum, MD sites. (compensation varies per location)

This position requires being onsite and does not support remote or hybrid work.

As a Software Engineer, you will be on the Space Vehicle Management team where you will design, develop, document, refactor, test, and debug applications software for a Ground Segment. Ultimately, you will support the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission. Development is done within the Agile paradigm using the Atlassian tool suite. The work is full-time in the office. The qualified candidate must have and be able to maintain a clearance.

The successful candidate will have Software development experience, with the ability to digest changes and synthesize them into working designs, generate efficient code according to the specifications, and adapt to changes as necessary that are driven by bugs or specification updates or the customer. The candidate is expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment, and to be highly self-motivated, reporting information to leads and the customer. The individual is expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, finding unique solutions and working in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment that continues to grow.

Basic Qualifications
  1. Must have an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at time of application
  2. Must be willing to submit for and successfully pass a polygraph
  3. Minimum years of experience needed to be considered:
    1. Level 3 (Principal):
      1. 5 Years of relevant experience with a completed bachelor’s degree
      2. 3 Years of relevant experience with a completed master's degree
      3. 1 Years of relevant experience with a completed Ph.D.
      4. 7 Years of relevant experience with a completed associate’s degree
      5. 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a completed degree ( High School diploma or equivalent is required )
    2. Level 4 (Sr Principal):
      1. 8 Years of relevant experience with a completed bachelor’s degree
      2. 6 Years of relevant experience with a completed master's degree
      3. 4 Years of relevant experience with a completed Ph.D.
      4. 10 Years of relevant experience with a completed associate’s degree
      5. 12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a completed degree ( High School diploma or equivalent is required )
  4. Must have above minimum experience on the below:
    1. Java, C++ and Python (or similar scripting language) in a cloud environment
    2. Agile development methodologies
    3. Automated testing
    4. Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies
    5. Working with a geographically distributed team
Preferred Qualifications
  1. STEM degree
  2. Favorably adjudicated CI or FS polygraph
  3. Proficient with Python, Perl, Rust, Docker/Kubernetes, Cloud, DevOps, CI/CD
  4. Proficient with Atlassian tools (i.e., Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
  5. Familiar with Kubernetes cluster software deployment
  6. Experience with automated test tools (i.e., Cucumber, Behave, Eggplant, Selenium, Cypress)
  7. Experience developing software for complex near real-time ground systems in mission domain

Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $165,500.00

Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
