Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems (PGSD) Division is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our high-performance team in the Remote Sensing Program (RSP) Business Unit in Linthicum, MD.

The ideal candidate will support development, design, fabrication, and testing of multiple space sensor hardware programs. The qualified candidate will work with a diverse and talented team of engineers developing innovative and cost-effective systems that support a broad range of products and business areas across the lifecycle of a program. The candidate will support the design of space hardware and specifically support the mechanical development of micro-circuit technology.

Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the mechanical development of advanced micro-circuit design as well as the assemblies that they support.
  • Responsible for the development of microcircuit advancements funded by internal NGC IRAD.
  • Understanding of all aspects of hardware development, including concept and detailed design development, CAD modeling efforts, documentation release, fabrication, integration, factory support, and testing.
  • Responsible for understanding technical performance of mechanical requirements of space program microcircuit hardware or subsystems.
  • Understand the integration and test process of space hardware and the special tooling that may be required.
  • Present technical solutions and data at milestone reviews.
  • Research and develop procedures, methods, and tools for furthering the development of micro-circuit technology.
  • Troubleshoot or support technicians in troubleshooting issues with hardware designs during integration and test.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and mentoring.
  • Lead or support department initiatives, recruiting, and technology roadmap creation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in a STEM field with 5 years of engineering experience; Master’s degree in STEM and 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience presenting complex technical programs and concepts to non-technical and technical personnel and customers.
  • Ability to successfully read and interpret schematics, block diagrams, sketches, and analyze hardware configurations.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with mechanical design tools.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with Poly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly.
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical micro-circuit design experience.
  • Experience with printed circuit board fabrication and testing.
  • Experience with surface mount technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.

Salary Range: $93,000 - $139,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers.
