Role Summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Communications Systems Engineer. The engineer will command core communications systems engineering concepts, perform analysis, devise requirements, and verify requirements by analyzing test data for applicable metrics.

Responsibilities

• Perform architecture trades, design analysis, and performance modeling.
• Provide systems engineering technical support for hardware development efforts.
• Conduct trade studies, specification development, requirements definition, and allocation to the unit and sub‑unit levels.
• Plan, develop, and present Internal Design Reviews.
• Plan unit verification.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of engineering experience, OR
• Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with 3 years of engineering experience, OR
• PhD in Electrical Engineering with 1 year of engineering experience.
• Practical experience with system architecture design, trade studies, performance analysis, and simulation.
• Technical experience supporting hardware development utilizing antenna, RF, digital, and microelectronic technologies.
• Strong signal analysis skills (frequency domain and time domain) and familiarity with antenna principles, VSWR, Gain, Noise Figure, etc.
• Experience in systems performance modeling and estimation.
• Requirement allocation and management experience; familiarity with MBSE or IBM Rational DOORS.
• Knowledge of developing standards and processes, and project lifecycle understanding.
• Active TS clearance and willingness to obtain SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completed coursework in communication theory, digital signal processing, and networking.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and standard communication protocols (FTP, SSH, etc.) and wireless technologies.
• Experience configuring and managing network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, access points).
• Ability to work with monitoring tools such as Wireshark.
• Experience with baseband and digital signal processing, waveform design, and network design.
• Strong leadership qualities, verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience developing requirements and testing requirements using core systems engineering principles.

Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000 – $171,000. Base pay is based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for certain positions.
