Job description

Position Overview

Principal Software Test Engineer – on‑site, U.S. citizen only. Must obtain and maintain a Secret DoD security clearance. Location: Goleta, Santa Barbara County, CA (US‑01, BLDG H04).

Responsibilities

• Derive testing requirements from system and software development specifications.
• Design and implement test configurations for hardware and software development stages.
• Perform physical installations and connections of equipment and software to establish and maintain test environments.
• Create test plans that demonstrate compliance with software specifications.
• Execute test plans and document test results.
• Prepare and submit documentation per Contractor Data Requirements List (CDRL).
• Produce planning and technical work products that provide original solutions to complex problems.
• Manage testing budget and schedule.
• Coordinate with hardware, electrical, systems teams and senior technical staff to ensure complete and successful software testing.
• Operate in a fast‑paced, dynamic product development environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in software test engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
• Experience configuring and connecting test scenarios with target hardware, input and driver devices, and data collection systems.
• Team‑leadership experience managing personnel, budget and schedules.
• Lab experience with logic analyzers, high‑speed oscilloscopes, signal generators, and system‑on‑chip debugging tools.
• Proven ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience coordinating software, hardware, and systems teams within agile processes.
• Technical writing experience for internal and customer distribution.
• Knowledge of object‑oriented programming, software design, integration, and test procedures.
• Embedded microprocessor, SoC software, FPGA, high‑speed transceivers, DDR, flash memories, block diagrams, signal analysis or generation, and real‑time operating systems.
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Existing Secret clearance.
• Electronic warfare, electronic attack/support, radar, or secure communications technology knowledge.
• Proficiency with Jenkins/Jira, DevSecOps tools, interface and bus standards, scripting, and test automation.
