Job summary

Snowflake is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design, implement, and optimize the semantic layer that powers enterprise analytics. You will shape architecture and plans for metrics, dimensions, and governance while maintaining high performance over multi-petabyte datasets.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Cortex and AI teams, and ensure the platform meets correctness, availability, and efficiency goals in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of industry experience designing and supporting large-scale data/software.
• Strong CS fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and complexity.
• Deep experience in query compilation/optimization, BI analytics infrastructure, or related areas.
• Fluency in Java or another object-oriented language.
• Proven track record solving complex, ambiguous problems.
• Ability to collaborate across engineering teams in multiple locations.
• BS in Computer Science; Masters or PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Solve real business needs at scale by applying software engineering and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Design, develop, and support the semantic modeling layer that translates semantic queries into correct, high-performance SQL.
• Create architecture and design; influence the semantic layer roadmap and governance across metrics, dimensions, relationships.
• Ensure semantic queries produce correct results while meeting performance and scale demands.
• Partner with Cortex and AI teams to ground analytics in a reliable semantic layer.
• Balance expressiveness, correctness, performance, and cost as usage grows.
• Mentor and grow engineers; raise the technical bar across the team.
• Ensure operational readiness of shipped features and commitments to customers.
