Job summary

Atom Computing seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the software platform orchestrating quantum workloads. You will set technical direction for systems interfacing with hardware control and calibration, and manage experimental data, while guiding architecture for next-gen systems.

This is a primarily backend role (Python and Rust) with some frontend work (TypeScript/React). The role involves operating close to hardware in a Linux environment and is based in Boulder, CO or Austin, TX

Qualifications

• Must have passion for writing software and track record of architecture-level features.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
• Willingness to learn atomic/optical/laser physics and quantum mechanics concepts.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for a core area of our software platform, guiding design and execution to align with the team roadmap.
• Drive architectural decisions across the software stack that orchestrates quantum computing.
• Invent novel technologies and solutions that advance our technology roadmap, including inventions and patents where appropriate.
• Rewrite and productionize prototype code from Quantum Engineers into reliable, maintainable services.
• Mentor engineers to raise code quality, design, and engineering practices.
• Deploy, monitor, and support the production platform; participate in on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with the infrastructure team to strengthen CI/CD pipelines for faster, more stable shipping.
• Represent Atom Computing's engineering work in customer/partner engagements and in the tech community.
