Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in the Enterprise Technology Vertical. This role is an exceptionally experienced, hands-on full-stack engineer responsible for defining and building the next generation of AI-powered enterprise workflows.

You will own technical direction end-to-end for ChatGPT Work surfaces, backend services, plugins, and connectors, setting patterns for reliability and security at scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production software at scale.
• Hands-on experience across frontend, backend, APIs, data, and enterprise integrations.
• Experience shipping AI-powered or AI-assisted products.
• Ability to translate customer needs into architectural direction and product strategy.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for enterprise AI experiences across ChatGPT Work surfaces, services, plugins, and connectors.
• Turn ambiguous customer needs into a clear product/technical strategy with milestones and architectural decisions.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives with Design, Research, GTM, Security, and platform teams; align stakeholders and drive decisions to implementation.
• Architect production-grade systems with evaluation, instrumentation, security, reliability, rollout, and rollback standards for probabilistic AI experiences.
• Own the complete product and engineering lifecycle from problem definition to launch and continued iteration.
• Define durable technical contracts and fallback strategies across connectors, identity, permissions, enterprise data, and model routing.
