Job summary

Docker is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to set the long-term technical direction for Docker Hardened Images (DHI) and influence container security across the ecosystem. You will own platform architecture, drive multi-quarter roadmaps, and coordinate across product, security, and infrastructure teams in a remote-first setup.

You will mentor engineers, engage with enterprise customers, and shape industry standards while working with a globally distributed team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience in distributed systems at scale.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to set multi-quarter technical roadmaps and align stakeholders on strategy and tradeoffs.
• Deep expertise in container and Kubernetes ecosystem and related projects.
• Mastery of container supply chain security concepts and governance across an organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture for Docker Hardened Images (DHI) as a platform.
• Define and drive multi-quarter technical roadmaps for container hardening.
• Identify systemic patterns and translate them into architectural changes.
• Build alignment across teams and executives on technical strategy.
• Represent Docker in escalations and enterprise engagements on security topics.
• Set conventions and standards at scale for image definition, helm charts, and tooling.
• Tackle the hardest, most ambiguous packaging problems requiring cross-org coordination.
• Shape the integration test infra and developer tooling strategy for scalability.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers through design reviews and architecture decisions.
• Participate in paid on-call rotations to improve reliability.
