Job summary

OpenAI is seeking research and software engineers for Codex Cyber to define and ship security products, collaborate with trusted defenders and customers, and shape model training and access patterns. You will help build research and evaluation systems to assess cyber capabilities, validate safeguards, and align with real-world security use cases.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Python or TypeScript/JavaScript with the ability to build reliable systems in high-stakes settings.
• Experience in ML systems, security products, cyber evaluations, model training, safety engineering, or trusted deployments.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and work across product launches, customer partnerships, and research teams.
• Strong understanding of cyber capability, misuse risk, access patterns, safeguards, and deployment tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical roadmap for Codex Cyber’s security products, including evaluations, safeguards, trusted‑defender workflows, and deployment decisions.
• Collaborate with defenders, customers, and partner teams to understand cyber use cases and translate feedback into priorities.
• Shape cyber‑specific model training and access patterns, including data, evaluations, validation, and deployment criteria.
• Build and validate systems for measuring cyber capabilities, monitoring misuse risk, and proving safeguards in practice.
• Collaborate with Safety/Preparedness, Research, Security, Legal, Communications, Go-to-Market, and external partners on cyber priorities.
• Translate frontier cyber research into launch‑ready tools, playbooks, and infrastructure.
