Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of cloud-native solutions from Boston. You will drive architectural decisions, mentor teams, and deliver scalable software with a strong product mindset.

The role emphasizes AI-assisted development, secure coding, and end-to-end lifecycle ownership, working closely with enterprise architects and product managers to align with strategic goals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in software engineering and system administration.
• Proven success in a Principal Engineer or equivalent leadership role.
• Strong product mindset and ability to translate business problems into reusable technical capabilities.
• Extensive experience in cloud-first and SOA architectures for high availability and performance.
• Proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem (including .NET Core and ASP.NET).
• Front-end development experience with Angular (latest versions) or React.

Responsibilities

• Design reusable, scalable, customer-focused capabilities across teams and functions.
• Lead the design and development of cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure.
• Mentor engineering teams and conduct code reviews to promote best practices.
• Collaborate with enterprise architects and product managers to translate requirements into robust software components.
• Own the full software development lifecycle with emphasis on testing, security, and maintainability.
• Ensure documentation of system architecture, workflows, and operating procedures.
