Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver high-quality solutions for business needs. You will handle systems analysis, design, development, integration, testing and maintenance across frontend, backend, and cloud-native stacks.

Responsibilities include leading design sessions with customers and architects, documenting requirements, defining scalable solutions, and implementing secure, QA-compliant software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; 7+ years relevant work experience.
• Preferred: 9+ years relevant work experience; railroad or transportation experience is a plus.

Job Summary

Responsible for systems analysis, design, development, system integration, enhancements, testing, maintenance and support. Resolve problems, provide recommendations, and assist with continual improvement of processes and solutions.

Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
• Plus 7 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
• Plus 9 years of relevant work experience.
• Railroad or other transportation experience is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Familiarity with core Internet technologies and modern full stack software engineering practices

• Proficiency inJava,JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, (Angular or React), and Node.js

• Development experience withSpring/SpringBootand RESTful APIs

• Experience with distributed messaging and streaming platforms, including Kafka orRabbitMQ

• Generalcloud platform experience(e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)

• Skilled inversion control systems(e.g., Git)

• Strong documentation and communication skills

• Solid understanding ofdata structures and design patterns

• Experience infrontend, backend, and cloud-native development

• Familiarity withAgile methodologies(SCRUM, SAFe)

• Understanding of information systems and application architectures

• Ability to work under deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing environments

The salary/hourly range is $124,600.00 – $161,352.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
