We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to develop a training platform for our cloud-first command and control software. Hypergiant, with its partners, is building an innovative cloud-based command and control system that integrates existing capabilities and provides automation to improve mission planning and execution efficiency. The ideal candidate can write high-quality code, integrate with partner capability providers, and ensure product quality. This role involves close collaboration with product owners, designers, and leadership on critical training software.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  1. Meet with clients (business and technical) to gather information for documenting architecture, including business processes and systems.
  2. Perform technical evaluations of prototypes and requirements; provide feedback to ensure feasibility and performance at scale.
  3. Document and maintain records of architectural decisions and the current state of the training platform.
  4. Build web applications aligned with our design system, capable of integrating continuous updates reflecting partner software features.
  5. Implement pixel-perfect designs based on Figma prototypes.
  6. Support development, testing, deployment of software in unclassified and classified environments.
  7. Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, tools, and processes for continuous improvement.
  8. Address complex technical problems, find alternative solutions, and mitigate risks.
  9. Proactively address security requirements and other constraints as identified.
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in full-stack software design and development.
  • 7+ years of experience with system architecture and third-party API integration.
  • Experience in research, discovery, and creating architecture and technical roadmaps.
  • Experience developing resilient file-transfer and data-streaming architectures.
  • Experience with static-site frameworks (e.g., Astro, Next.js, Gatsby).
  • Ability to manage client expectations and project timelines.
  • Experience managing and mentoring development teams in Agile environments.
  • Strong interest in learning new technologies with pragmatic application.
  • Proficiency with version control and collaborative workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15+ years in software design and development.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
  • Understanding of ML production ecosystems (data ingestion, inference, monitoring).
  • Experience with containers and OCI runtimes (k8s, Docker, etc.).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React.
  • Performance engineering experience in near real-time systems.
  • GIS experience.
  • Experience with third-party authentication integration.
  • Experience in video game development or immersive training environments.
  • Experience in DOD training and education fields.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Active US DOD security clearance.

Salary Range:

The US base salary range is $166,900 – $198,000 USD, influenced by experience, skills, and education. This range pertains to base salary only, excluding bonuses, equity, or benefits.
