Job summary

Fidelity is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to architect and implement front-end solutions for large multi-application platforms. You will design advanced UI systems, reusable cross‑platform modules, and complex build/deploy strategies leveraging modern CI/CD pipelines and production observability tooling.

The role requires translating divisional initiatives into business solutions, mentoring junior staff, and guiding architecture decisions across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Candidate must possess expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining customer facing Web applications using Java, Spring, Node.js, Angular, and JavaScript.
• Experience with RESTful Web services architecture using Spring framework.
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins and uDeploy; familiarity with testing tools such as Cucumber and Cypress.

Position Description

Architects and implements front‑end solutions for large‑scale, multi‑application platforms involving complex state management, distributed User Interface (UI) patterns, and high‑volume user interactions. Designs advanced component libraries, shared UI systems, and reusable cross‑platform front‑end modules that support multiple product teams and long‑term enterprise scalability. Creates complex build and deployment strategies for multi‑environment front‑end delivery, leveraging advanced Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, artifact management, and production observability tooling. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities

• Participates in architecture design teams.

• Recommends development of testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
• Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
• Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
• Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
• Responsible for meeting project goals on‑time and on‑budget.
• Advises risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
• Plans and coordinates complex project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
• Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
• Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
• Advises senior management on technical strategy.
• Mentors junior team members.
• Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
• Develops original and creative technical solutions to on‑going development efforts.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing financial business intelligence data warehouse platforms in Oracle database.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing financial business intelligence data warehouse platforms in Oracle database.

Skills and Knowledge

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing, developing, and maintaining customer facing Web applications and services using Java, Spring framework, Node.js, Angular, and JavaScript; and designing, developing, and implementing Cloud‑based software solutions according to RESTful Web services architecture using Spring framework.
• DE developing customer facing and secure Web applications according to Java or Spring frameworks using classical Model View Layer (MVC) architecture, Azure SSO, AWS KMS, and OAuth technologies.
• DE developing distributed, low‑latency, high throughput applications, using CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, uDeploy, and testing frameworks (Cucumber and Cypress); and designing, developing, and maintaining publishing and content management applications.
• DE deploying and monitoring enterprise Web based services, including using Jenkins, NPM, and Maven for packaging; using Git for version control, using Jira, ServiceNow, and Quality Center for issue tracking, and using Splunk for log tracking; providing CD according to Agile methodologies; and monitoring customer facing, business critical applications using Splunk and Datadog.
