Job summary

Calance, Inc. is seeking a Principal Data Architect to lead Snowflake Lakehouse initiatives on a remote engagement in the United States. The role focuses on topology, governance, and AI-ready architecture across multi-account environments.

You will design access controls, cost governance, and reference architectures, while mentoring domain teams and aligning with enterprise data leadership to standardize analytics platforms at scale.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in data architecture, data engineering or data platform roles, with at least 5 years architecting Snowflake at enterprise scale.
• Proven design of medallion or lakehouse architectures at scale, including open table formats such as Iceberg on cloud object storage.
• Expert SQL, and working fluency in dbt and modern ELT practices.
• Design experience with role-based and attribute-based access control, tagging, masking and row access policies on Snowflake.
• Experience governing platform cost, including attribution of spend to teams and chargeback.
• Experience consolidating or reorganizing a sprawling data estate while teams continue to deliver.
• A record of enabling federated teams to build within standards rather than centralizing their work.
• Strong working knowledge of AWS data services.

Responsibilities

• Define the target account topology and govern spoke vs core accounts.
• Publish Bronze, Silver and Gold definitions, data contracts and reference architectures.
• Design role-based and attribute-based access control, tagging, masking and secure sharing policies on Snowflake.
• Set warehouse design standards, cost monitoring and capacity reporting.
• Provide templates and reference implementations for dbt projects and data contracts.
• Run architecture reviews with defined turnaround times and approvals for standard-compliant teams.
• Coach analytics engineers in domain pods on design and performance.
• Govern the enterprise semantic layer to support AI features and product telemetry.
