Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Infra team. You will define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of core search and indexing capabilities across a globally distributed team.

You will research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms while collaborating with product teams to shape the long-term technical vision for Elasticsearch.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading technical projects in search infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Experience mentoring expert engineers, providing technical and professional guidance.
• Experience defining a long-term technical vision for a core search or retrieval system, across teams.
• Hands-on experience with search and indexing technologies such as Elasticsearch, Lucene, or Solr.
• Strong Java skills and familiarity with concurrency constructs and data structures.
• Autonomy to own projects from concept to completion, including design and collaboration.
• Experience with large-scale data or search systems and distributed storage engines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication across distributed teams.

Responsibilities
