Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a Principal Research Scientist II in the MPDD group to lead computational chemistry efforts across drug discovery and development. You will guide molecular design, profiling, and transitions, leveraging quantum mechanics, MD simulations, and AI/ML within a cross-functional team.

The role emphasizes mentoring, strategic vision, and the democratization of computational capabilities across discovery workflows, with a focus on translating complex models into actionable decisions

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of computational chemistry and data science in medicinal chemistry.
• Experience with quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics, and AI/ML.
• Experience leading multiple programs in a matrixed or direct-reporting environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with project teams to establish objectives for lead optimization and de-risking.
• Provide scientific leadership in applying computational chemistry to design and profiling.
• Design and execute benchmarking studies to evaluate model performance and limitations.
• Communicate rationale for model and workflow selections to project teams.
• Lead development of a portfolio of internal computational models and workflows.
• Collaborate with chemists, data scientists, and engineers to integrate tools into workflows.
